Extendo King
Monday, September 27th, 2004After 10 months of idle speculation here on G3, it looks like the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (LOTR:ROTK for you Tolkien Geeks) special edition DVD (SEDVD for you Needless Acronym Geeks) is going to be 4 hours and 10 minutes of hobbity goodness. Huzzah!

Goat Trauma Support
Thursday, September 23rd, 2004Not many of our gentle readers have had, shall we say, rural training. Although one of our esteemed G3 authors was raised on a farm, most g33ks have had very little contact with barn yard critters.
Since I suspect our particular peer group may be more prone to traumatic experiences at petting zoos than other groups, I encourage everyone out there to seek help:
The Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation

Moble Phones Go to the Dogs.
Friday, September 17th, 2004I am by the lamp post, master.
“HUMANITY’S OBSESSION with pets has just gone barking with Canadian dog owners giving their best friend a mobile phone to bark down.” The full article is here…
Growing Up Geek
Wednesday, September 15th, 2004I read an amusing article on the Art of Geek…
Some things really are universal. Luckily, however, I didn’t get beat up on the playground too much.

Another Half-Life 2 bit
Tuesday, September 14th, 2004Valve released another HL2 video this weekend called “Coast”. The content of this video is basically the same as E3 demo that was circulated a while back. But the difference is that this is coming from video output (at 1024×768), rather than from someone’s camcorder.
It’s a Bink recording (in .exe format) and I got it from here. Much better than waiting in line at FilePlanet.
Anyhow, we seriously need help guys. Absolutely anything with the HL2 logo seems to get us all warm and fuzzy inside. Anyone for some group therapy in the form of a Counter-Strike: Source LAN party? :-p
My Experience with WoW
Monday, September 13th, 2004I played WoW basically all of Saturday after I finally got it up and running (damn you FilePlanet). Anyway, thought I’d let you know what I thought:
Graphics & Sound
I won’t talk about this much because it doesn’t matter as much to me. The graphics are based on Warcraft 3, so everything looks a little cartoonish as they did in WC3, but it didn’t bother me, because its basically what I expected. What impressed me was that I cranked my machine to 1600×1200, highest detail of everything, and the frame rate change was un-noticeable, and looked good. The sound is typical of these games, except in combat you can actually hear impact noises on hits and misses and parries.

CS Cheaters
Monday, September 13th, 2004Now that Counter-Strike has renewed interest thanks to the Source (HL2) engine, the next wave of cheaters has arrived. Since there may be some new gamerz out there who didn’t play the older version, I thought I’d pull out a great article from the GameSpy archives:
How to Cheat at Counter-Strike
The amazing thing is — even with the new version of CS that’s out — the techniques described in the article above still work!

Half-Life Preload Part 3
Saturday, September 11th, 2004Another round hit Steam some time last night.
This one seems to be considerably smaller than the first or second, looking to be only about 10% of the sum.
I haven’t seen anything new on a release date, but I’m happy to interpret the latest preload of the HL2 models as a good sign that the finishing touches are nearing. Sad how we’ll cling to hope, eh?
Peasant’s Quest
Friday, September 10th, 2004Half-Life 2 isn’t looking as sexy as it used to.
Get a load of Peasant’s Quest.
Best of all, it is “coming August 2004“, baby!
