Doom 3, or not Doom 3

Wednesday, July 14th, 2004

… that is the question. Well, for some.

So as they say in the waiting-for-games-to-be-released biz, Doom 3 has “Gone Gold”. Interestingly enough there’s an article on CNNMoney.com about it. A question it asks is: Will Doom 3 revive the struggling PC gaming industry? A good question. I mean, as it states, the delay of this game and Half-life 2 have created a significant decline (14%) in PC gaming sales last year. I know I’m continually losing faith in the gaming companies’ abilities to put out good games on schedule. Now, I have a few uninformed and simplistic ideas on how they can stop letting down the anxiously awaiting gamers, but I won’t go into those now.

Anyhoo, so the question stands. Is Doom 3 worth getting? Given some of the reviews I’ve read, it sounds like it’s going to be a lot like Far Cry, in that it will have a more realistic physics engine, and “intelligent” AI. One of the articles I read on Doom 3 said that it is more focused on creating suspenseful atmosphere and a solid scare factor. And since I found Far Cry to be interesting, fun, and otherwise immersive, I think my answer to the above question is “Yes”.

What’s your answer?

Hax joo with iPod?

Remember the amusing idea in Independence Day that Jeff Goldblum could use a Mac to introduce a virus into an alien mothership’s defense systems? (Or that he could say a line, without, without, like, hesitating, and, you know, maybe, repeating himself?)

I guess the Brits are taking the Apple in the hands of an American idea rather seriously. It would seem that you, your tunes, and your iPod could land you in a lot of trouble over the pond:

British Military: iPods Pose Security Risk

I guess they have a point. Heaven forbid somebody infected a system with, say, Justin_Timberlakes_Greatest_Hits.mp3 .
