Mmm, Forbidden Laptop

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003

It seems that so many Software Developers these days are getting hooked up with a laptop. Since telecommuting isn’t going away I can’t see that trend changing. Sure is nice to be able to take your work with you.

But in addition to taking your work wherever you need to go, wouldn’t it be nice to exercise your gamer-geek skills on the road as well? Of course it would. I gotta tell ya … currently when someone mentions “LAN party” I cringe. The thought of lugging around my big, fat, desktop machine is painful. But alas, things may all be changing for the Developer/Gamer community due to the progression of computer hardware technology.

A recent post from “The .NET Guy” pointed me at some laptops that make sure you can do both. Seriously though, a laptop that completely blows away my 1.2 year old home computer … in EVERY aspect. Man, technology aggrivates me sometimes. :-p

The Sager NP8890 … *drool*. Perhaps I should add a “Wishlist” category :-D

Quantum Encryption

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003

I ran across a really cool article about a new technology that leverages quantum physics for encryption. (I mentioned this at dinner on Monday.) Here’s an excerpt:

“Photons, discrete particles of energy, are so sensitive that if anyone tries to spy on their travel from one point to another, their behavior will change, tipping off the sender and recipient and invalidating the stolen code. ”
